How to Tuesday: Doll Purse

Every girl loves her accessories, and every girl loves her dolls. So, we decided as today's how to Tuesday, to offer a matching dolls purse!! Isn't that perfect?!? Every girl will be thrilled for her dolly to have matching accessories! As with all CKC patterns, this pattern is girly, ruffled, and super easy! This is also great because it doesn't take much fabric- you can probably even use your scraps! Very big impact with very little work and cost.

For this girls free purse pattern that we released this spring, follow this  LINK. And for the free doll purse follow the link below to download yours today. Well that is all for me. I have a sweet little one who is teething and wants me to snuggle.
Happy sewing y'all!

SoHo Bandana Blog Tour

Yay! The day is finally here; Welcome to the Soho blog tour here at Create Kids Couture.
A few weeks ago I was invited to take part in the tour for Indygo Junction to kick off  the amazing fabric collection SoHo Bandana by Amy barickman.
Now if you follow me here at CKC, or know me in person. You know I am a blue and green girl so when I saw these awesome fabrics my eye of course went straight for those.

So after swooning over Amy as a designer and a person. (You can read her bio here.) I choose a few fabrics and stalked my hippie mailman like it was my job, and when they came I was in awe! The colors are even more amazing in person!

The line includes two bandana prints which are so neat, and several coordinates in navy, green, cream and red. And in lue of the soho tour and the National Sewing Month giveaway that's going on over at Indygo Junction, They are offering a 20% discount for all the CKC fans. Use code SBT20 when checking out.

So let me show you what I did with my SoHo! I paired our new Hazel's Hippie Dress and Nicolette's Double Ruffle Pants to make Miss Ayla this adorable outfit!!! And we have been getting stopped non stop about it. We hardly made it out of the grocery the other day.

I'm telling you all these fabrics are stunning! I keep trying to get a picture that would really show just how rich the colors are. But trying to snap pictures of a 15 month old is a task in itself. So your just going to have to take my word for it.

There is something about this soho fabric that screamed Hazel's Hippie dress. Maybe its the vintage vibe I picked up from the fabrics or maybe that it has just enough bold colors to hold its own in a very over the top dress.

Okay so now on to some fun stuff! To start off Indygo is hosting a HUGE giveaway for national sewing month! And I mean HUGE. Over $2,000 in prizes.

And to make it easy for you girls to enter the sweet ladies over at Indygo Junction have given me the rafflecopter to post here on our blog. So no blog hopping is needed to enter--although you should ;)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

On top of that they have also offered to give away a 1 yard cut of the ENTIRE Soho Bandana collection to one of our lucky readers. Create Kids Couture is donating a 3 pack of patterns to accompany the winner--because you're going to need some new patterns for your new fabric! So All you need to do for that is leave a comment below with what CKC pattern you would plan on using with your new Soho stash! Make sure to include your email. And I'll draw a name and announce on our Friday recap later this week.

That's all for me!

How To Tuesday!

Its Tuesday!! And I realized we hadn't released any how to's when it comes to the women's patterns. So today we have two free downloadable tutorials for you thanks to Nikki, the lovely designer behind our tween and women's patterns.
Up first is a tutorial to help you adjust your fitted bodices. This is going be a great help if you own the Women's Anna or Peony. This will also be great for a few new patterns that are in the works like the women's primrose! (oops did I add a photo or two of that in here too?)  Nikki does such a great job at breaking it down and really making it much easier then you may think.

Secondly we have a tutorial for alternative sleeves to the basic fitted bodice. I personally am not a huge fan of showing my shoulders. So when Nikki told me she was working on a cap sleeve alternative I was tickled pink!

To download the both of these tutorials follow this link here:
Well ladies, I hope you find both of these tutorials a ton of help.
Happy Sewing Y'all,
Morgan

Lets have a contest!

I think after the morning we've had on facebook, us CKC girls could really use some cheering up. So lets have another sewing meme contest! If your an oldie to the CKC fan page you will remember we did this last year and we got some great responses. And lots of giggles. Here are just a few of my favorite from last year.

Okay yes its true I love me some Ryan! Side note: my hubby is off work and just caught glimpse of me blogging. He has a very strange looking face at the moment. Wonder if I should fill him in. HAHAHA!
So here is all the contest info you need. Create a fun sewing/CKC related  meme and post it to our facebook fanpage by next Friday. (9-20-2013)

You can view all of last years entries HERE!
Also Tiffany and Shannon got some complaints last year. So please make sure your man is at least 50% clothed.
And next Friday we will be selecting one lucky meme creator to win a pack of 3 patterns.

And extra brownie points to anyone who can get their husbands to pose for a true handmade sewing meme.

Happy sewing Y'all!!
Morgan

Scrapbuster Bow!!!

Its been a while since Ive done a scrap buster post. And after Melissa (a CKC pattern tester) from Three Dutch Divas shared a picture of a bow she made using the armpit cut out of a new pattern she was testing. I knew I needed to share this great idea with you.

OH and yes this picture is a sneak peek of a new pattern coming out in next few days. Your very welcome.
So anyway we all have a TON of these laying around and if your a true seamstress you know you don't toss them. Even if you don't know what to do with them. But now you use them to make matching fabric hairbows!!! AMAZING, I know!

So lets start by cutting off the curved ends or two of our "armpits" creating a small rectangle. Remember to save that small pieces for later.

Now with right sides together, sew along all four sides.

After you have sewn all around the rectangle. Take your seam ripper and make a small slit in the middle of ONE layer of fabric.

Next push all of the four corners though the small slit, flipping the rectangle right side out.
I like to use the back of my seam ripper to really make sure that all the corners are pushed out.

Now top stitch all along the outer edge of the rectangle. and steam it nice and flat.

We will now fold our fabric like a fan into fourths. And pin in place.
Now we will stitch down the center of the folded fabric and set it aside.

Next we take one of the bottom curve pieces that we sit aside in the 1st step and we fold it into 3rds like shown. and then top stitch down both sides.

Now its time to pull out the hot glue gun and start burning our finger tips. Starting with the bow, glue one side of the clip to the back of the bow. Then glue one end of out long piece on top of where we just glued the bow to the clip.

Wrap the fabric around the bow (gluing where needed) and back around to the back of the bow. Stopping where we left off. Snip the tail off and just like that. You have a sweet little fabric bow that matches your completed dress.

Happy sewing Y'all!
